Bohinj

July 21, 2008

It was going to rain, but I didn’t want to pay for accomodation and I wanted to test my equipment.  I set up the tarp like a tent.  I got in and it was hot as shit.  Then mosquitoes were all over the place.  I couldn’t handle it.

I kept walking towards a campground.  It took over an hour probably and I was lugging my pack.  Sucked.  I got to the camp, and asked if they had any tents to rent.  No.  Shit, that was frustrating.  Then I turned back towards town, facing another hour walk, when I saw this sheltered beauty: a wooden canopy bus stop.  I set up shop and had a good night’s rest.  The rain came pouring down.  I was happy I wasn’t in my crude tarp tent.

I got kicked out of the bus stop at 6:30am when a cop came by.  He said ˝You’re sleeping here?˝ I denied that I was although I was completely in the bag.  He told me I had 5 minutes to get out of there.

This is me at the lake.  Really misty beautiful.

Ljubljana and Bled

July 19, 2008

Ljubljana, Slovenia was a really nice place.  I walked around and enjoyed the show.  Very quaint for a capital city, had a good feel.  I found a cool door on a church.  The castle on the hill kind of sucked though, but they had a 3D show of its history.  Kewl.

There’s a district called Metalkova which was an army barracks that was abandoned.  It was going to be demolished but some art, bohemian types squatted in it in protest, and have since formed a commune there.  It’s supposed to be great at night.  So I went.  There’s graffiti all over the walls, a bunch of interesting garbage sculpture, trash, dirt, and a lot of teens and death-metal.  I felt really old and boring.  Pretty out of place.  I had a drink and left.

I went up to the Ljubljana Resort the next day to camp.  It had a pretty nice pool, but I realized later that it was actually pretty boring.  I should remember that.  I camped again like a spartan.  I had a whole caravan pitch just for my sleeping bag and clothesline.

I went to Bled, which was a few hours away.  Beautiful place with a church on an island in a big lake surrounded by mountains.  I walked around, but I felt there wasn’t much to do, so I immediately headed on to Bohinj, a good spot for adventure sports.
